Here's a small but notable update from Primfeed, the new, quickly growing social network/Flickr alternative for the Second Life user community:
AI is allowed on Primfeed, however it needs to follow simple rules: If it's a vendor ads, you must use the AI tag. If it's not, it doesn't need the AI tag. - Your content can't be ALL AI generated content, even if it's trained on SL content. As per the Terms of Service, it needs to be 80-90% of SL content.
"[I]t's just a requirement to put the label render or AI on vendors ads," Primfeed owner/lead developer Lucas Rowley tells me. "My goal was to address customers' worries about the abuse of use of generative AI for vendors ads, and the tag AI was an answer to these worries." Rowley says it's been a frequent complaint of new Primfeed users.
I'm not surprised:
As I just reported, 1 in 4 Second Life merchants use AI to create/promote their content, while a majority of SLers say they frequently see AI-enhanced promotions on their social media.
Speaking of which, another Primfeed update reports the social network now has 11,000 users. The user interface is well-optimized for sharing SL images, enabling easy content ratings, and toggles for identifying vendor images and public access. And for the many SLers annoyed at screenshots drowned out by generative AI processing, Primfeed could be an oasis.
I'll say I don't view pf as a replacement for Flickr and that is fine. There a lot of restrictions in terms of photo quality and photo storage. I do find it to be a lot more like an sl twitter that can support the sharing of photos, but since there are more technical limitations there isn't the same kind of "photo sharing" that flickr can allow. Now that said, but I definitely like the fact that I don't feel like I have to worry about having low production images and wips clogging my flickr page, and I can post my vendor ads more than once. I'll use both for now.

AI images and professional renders are used all over SL and by top sellers, because it works. Most consumers don't care and don't know these tactics and will buy because of a pretty picture.
A surprise since usually all they have is ONE picture. I guess they're so good as a creator they have a loyal fan base that doesn't require seeing the asset at all angles, and they're used to having to pump their LOD level to 4 that it's no problem for them.
SL'ers are not annoyed by AI images because they don't even know that they are AI, and reward the users with lots and lots of sales.
