Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Sam Rougefeu is the kind of Second Life Flickr photographer that SL residents should be following. He travels around and takes pictures and gives us SLURLS and short descriptions of where he has been. For example, this delightful robin image is a potential “Is It Live or Is it Second Life?” challenge question. I love it when artists don’t focus solely on the grand vistas but also hone in on the little details that make our world so delightful.
I featured one of Sam’s pictures in a recent column on the Rain and Storm SL group. He pinged me on Flickr, saying that he had been hoping for years that I might appreciate his work. I had not been following him until I wrote that column!
Sam’ comment gave us an idea: We created a new Flickr group, Submissions for New World Notes coverage. So in addition to his great pics and travel advice, Sam has inspired this initiative. Now join the group and show us your work!
Anyway, for more of Sam’s delightful travels, click here:
“In awe of the rich autumn colors at Broken” is not from a Red Dead video game. It’s a fantastic picture, not just because of the rich autumn colors but also thanks to the naturalistic pose of the rider. In the description, Sam writes:
Broken, is a very pretty sim consisting of six small islands designed by Talia (natalia.corvale). and makes a very pleasant place for a short ride. Although there are Animesh horses available for visitors to ride, I remained faithful to "Dessie”; I love it.
By the way, about Red Dead Redemption 1 & 2, Tore Olsson, a University of Tennessee historian, recently published a history book that tracks with the game, giving a much deeper context: “Weaving the games’ plot and characters into an exploration of American violence between 1870 and 1920, the book shows that it was more often disputes over capitalism and race, not just poker games and bank robberies, that fueled the bloodshed of these turbulent years.”
“Bird watching - Kawayan at Tubig” is marvelous. Again he has chosen such a naturalistic pose. I love how he cropped this shot using the rule of thirds. The top of the boat is exactly one-third from the bottom and he is one third from the left. This angle makes the flowers look as though they are sheltering the boat.
As in his other pictures, Sam provides more information about the place and a link to go there. In this case, he also provided a link to a Second Life travel blog, Exploring Second Life with Annie, a blog started by Annie Brightstar and continued by Sam after she became inactive. Check out his post about this gorgeous sim that offers more than beauty, but also an introduction to the T’boli people of the Philippines.
Sam Rougefeu’s Flickr stream is not just overflowing with lovely pictures of beautiful places in Second Life. He adds information about who designed the places and what to look for. And I would not have discovered his stream or his blog if not for his posting that picture to the Rain and Storm SL group. But now, we have the Submissions for New World Notes coverage! So there’s no excuse for not waving your arms and posting your pics.
