Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Rawnie Lane’s “Foggy Woods” seems the perfect picture to open my exploration of Autumn in Second Life, a Flickr group exploring the wonders of the season in our metaverse. This is a beautiful forest with a path meandering through it and leaves falling to the ground. Yes, it is raking season, but I want to make a pitch for leaving the leaves in your yard rather than burning or putting them out with the trash. Why? Because lots of little critters need the leaves for shelter and they also add nutrients to your soil. We are losing butterflies, so let’s leave the leaves and help save the butterflies. Butterflies would love this forest.

Simple but nice revels in the beauty of fall leaves in “Magic Autumn.” She looks up at a falling leave, one that is right up at the top, it’s path traced by light. It’s a lovely foreground to the avatar down below.
Helle Devin’s “Always” shows us a slightly spookier autumn forest. It’s darker, the fog creeps around her. We cannot see deep into the forest; it’s all in shadow. Anything could be hiding there. Also, please note the leaves have been left on the ground for the butterflies.
Aris Bonham in “Fair Autumn Morning” highlights on the best things about the fall, the harvest and the farmers marketing their offerings. There’s nothing like a fresh peach that was picked just that morning or picking your own blueberries. Farmers Markets are often exciting. Aris and his companion seem to be pumpkin shopping. This is the time of year for replacing the potatoes in your stew with chunks of pumpkin. Yum!
Catany Klaar created this gorgeous “Falling Leaves in LeLoo’s World.” I love how it looks like her eyes are following the leaves and how she looks like she might be a tiny bit dizzy. It’s simply stunning. I love how so much of the detail is blown out in the light.
Sadie Zee’s “The River” initially made me ask how a real life picture made its way into this Second Life group. The way the light shines off the water is breathtaking. The light breaks up where the water is roiled as the river turns. I love it.
Autumn in Second Life is a lovely group of 450 members. It is managed by Linsey Carter who does the difficult job of keeping the pictures on topic. There are 4500 photos for you to enjoy. I hope you check it out.
