Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Eira Juliesse’s untitled picture is a great example of how cropping a picture can give it a new emotional context and add drama. In the original picture, below, my emotions are less engaged. I get a feeling of aloneness, even alienation, perhaps. Yes, she’s looking over her shoulder, but we are far enough away from her that there is no threat anywhere near her. She is alone.
In the first picture, cropped much closer, she’s looking over her shoulder and there is a feeling of jeopardy. We get the feeling that she has just heard something, something that made her start and look over her shoulder. It has emotional impact.
Compare with the uncropped version:

This picture is titled “Raw” which might just mean she didn’t edit it. If so, she took exquisite care in placing the flower her finger is fully in front of one petal. The flower as eye trope has been done frequently, but this is one of the best. I’ve seen. For example, her shadow is perfect, not at all behind the flower, instead the shadow frames the flower. Everything is just as perfectly placed as it could be.
This picture is untitled. This may be presumptuous, but I would be happy to name it “Stinkeye.” I love the way light and shadow reveals and hides her face. I love her hair. I want that hair. It’s so bold and sassy. Bold and sassy is the entire vibe. She’s not giving us a fake smile when no smile is merited. But she’s saying it all with her eyes. That is a dubious look cast our way. Stinkeye all the way. I love it.
Eira Juliesse’s stream is a delight. She only posted once this year, but she’s worth waiting for.
