Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Isla Nebula is a marvelous landscape photographer who has been sharing her art on Flickr for four years and I failed to discover her before today. I am remiss!
Speaking of which, here’s a tip on how I find new SL artists on Flickr to cover: By searching for a word and “secondlife.” Today the word was “winter” and look what came up (above)! This is a magnificently retro scene with the wood-panelled station wagon carrying a tree from the Christmas Tree farm. That looks like an old-fashioned VW bug as well. I love how she used the trees and bushes to foreground the picture and the story it tells. If Currier & Ives were alive today, they would be taking pictures like this in Second Life.

This is called “Landscape Commission” which suggested to me she created this landscape as well as took a snapshot of it. That makes her the artist twice over. So I checked her SL profile where she has a pick for the Christmas Tree Farm and for her landscaping business White Willow SL, So, yes, she is the one who placed the bird in the foreground to give this lovely landscape a way to envision the distance. She was landscaping not just for beauty, but for composition.
“Landscaping 05” is reminiscent of the Christmas Tree Farm. Sure, it’s a sunny summer beach and the Farm is a snowy winter scene, but both have that lovely retro vibe, the old van, the airplane propeller, the folding lawn chairs, all chosen with care. There are no anachronisms. It is all about capturing the zeitgeist of that time. She does it perfectly, and again, twice over, in creation and in documenting her work.
Isla Nebula shares beautiful pictures, and it turns out, creates the scenes she photographs. You get two arts in one! Incredibly, she has only 152 followers, so I am not the only one who is remiss. Get clicking!
