Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Charlotta Jackman aka Handdrawn posted this intriguing picture she called “Keep playing with fire…You’ll never be able to handle the heat.” I love this picture. For one, it’s so different from the usual pictures of body or headshots or landscapes. She zoomed in close and is sending a message, a warning to all who would trifle with her.
I found this picture in the group Second Life's Edgy -Different. So what is edgy or different? I spent some time browsing through the group to find out. This is an adults-only group, but don’t worry, if you’re okay with occasional explicitness here or there, it’s a lovely group of photos.

Gurbo Ghost gifted us with “Infinite Darkness.” A picture within a picture within a picture. Very meta. It’s intriguing. Definitely one way to be edgy is to have a different kind of avatar, In this case, a very demonic looking avatar. This is definitely a picture that rewards a closer look. He did another picture with multiple exposures, but it’s definitely not safe for the break room. It’s possible he is building up to a thematic collection with mirrors.
Ooh, I love this one from Jerome Thorin. It’s called “Exploding” and he posted a link to a music video that seems to describe how I feel when I read the news. I love the skeletal bodysuit and gloves with the baroque metalwork. I love the tracing his hands make in the air. Such a fun picture. He’s zapping a book, make it a newspaper and it would be perfect.
“Shttt…” from Sebhinio is quite the picture. Those eyes. That hand. Is that Jack the Ripper’s teddy bear?
Poe OwO gives us “G.I. Doe” a gorgeous mesh deer dressed up as an officer. I have been looking forward to seeing really gorgeous mesh furries and lo, and behold, here is G.I. Doe.
Mαяκ Sмıяиøν ‘Brillante resplandor hay aqui” reminds us that edgy is more than monsters and demons. “Here there is radiance” seems like a picture of hope and finding it in our beautiful sky.
Dongo sama’s “Amour Eternal” or eternal love is gorgeous. It is so powerful with her in silhouette. The silhouette takes this picture from a singular story of one woman’s love to a sempiternal avatar of eternal love.
Second Life's Edgy -Different began fifteen years ago. With over 2400 members and more than 57,000 photos, it could so easily have become one of those groups that are a hot mess of blog photos and BDSM exhibitionism. But it is moderated, carefully curated over all these years by Fingers Scintilla, the founder, Ariel Brearly, and currently by Kahlan Bingy Through the years, good moderators have keep the group alive and on topic with a diverse, equitable, and inclusionary vision of the edge, weird, and the different.
