Winter Jefferson has been a fashion icon in Second Life since 2008, pushing boundaries of fashion and style. (Those are not the same thing.) Impatient with gendered fashion expectations, his style has been gender-bending since the beginning. Describing himself on his Flickr profile, he wrote “I've escaped from your nightmares, but I may turn up occasionally in your wet dreams. I'm made of violence, style, sex and magic and all of those impossible things before breakfast. I blog and model, I'm a marketing maestro and I always, always bite.”

Yes, he is a vampire of the non-sparkling kind. I don’t know if these knives are more or less effective at cutting through the air than more traditional bat-like wings, but they sure look sharp. This outfit reminds me of David Bowie’s Thin White Duke alter ego, though Winter has always reminded me of Bowie in many ways. By the way, that club is gorgeous.

It’s common to lament that Second Life clothing creators are less imaginative and creative than they used to be before mesh. I’ve said the same thing when I see one more ash-cheeky too-short skirt with a nip slip top and we all know what I am complaining about. But there are creative designers in Second Life, we just need to look for them. Like Winter does. Also, isn’t this a gorgeous example of the rule of thirds. 

Winter Jefferson has a style all his own, blending male and female fashion into his own androgynous style and never settling for the ordinary. His photos are so good and all raw and unedited straight from Second Life.
