Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
It’s that time of year when my Facebook feed is filled with pictures of calves, colts, kids, lambs, chicks, and ducklings. That’s what happens when most of your real life relatives are farmers. It seems only fair to be checking out the farm fauna of Second Life as well, which led to to Siobhán Muintir’s Flickr group, Cows Virtual Bulls Bison Buffalo.
So, I absolutely had to choose “Cows…of course” from Azure Bleu and not just because of the title. It was one of the few with a calf, the whole inspiration for this post. This is a lovely mother and child picture though we are always told we should not anthropomorphize animals’ emotions. I generally think those people haven’t spent enough time around animals or even watching animal videos on YouTube.

"Les vaches (Cote d’Opale)" is by Arnaud Quillot. This is astonishingly realistic. I mean, you can almost see each blade of grass. Second Life has been on the road to constantly more reality in virtual reality.
And of course, any look at cows must include a UFO abducting a cow. “They’re Stealing the Cows” is from Tegan Tenby. Of all the exciting kinds of trouble cows can get into, UFO abductions are probably the most common. Alien cow abductions are actually much older than you might think. In 1897, a farmer named Alexander Hamilton (not THE Hamilton) reported that aliens captured and butchered a calf. UFO cow abductions are so common there are more than 1500 in Adobe stock photo images.
Cows Virtual Bulls Bison Buffalo is a relatively small group with just 79 members. But there are nearly 500 pictures and thanks to Siobhán’s diligent moderation, they are all cows or related species.
