Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Stina McGillivary has a knack for spotting the unique and unusual on her Second Life journeys. I mean do all visitors to Buddha Garden notice this little mouse when the totality of the sim is so overwhelming? A lot of people who go sightseeing, here in SL or in RL, walk through the sites, making sure to look at everything. A few people, however, are less concerned with looking at everything and are interested in a more intense kind of seeing. She sees both the macro and the micro. She beholds the sim.
This is a fantastic capture. It’s adorably cute, but it’s also really quite beautiful. I love how she gets the spokes of the umbrella to perfectly align with the tree behind it along the right side where the moon shines down. The way the tree and umbrella come together is sort of magical. I just love everything about this picture. p.s even looking for the mouse, I could not see or behold it.

Here she has a shot of one of the sims at Fantasy Faire. She has included herself in this picture. To get a unique perspective, she climbed up on top of a building to look down on the walkway. The build makes me think of the first World’s Fair held in London in 1851 that was attended by six million people. From her vantage point, the grandeur and size of the build is made clear and obvious. It’s a great view of an extraordinary build. The only thing missing is the visitors.
“Cats Around Hi-Cafe” is her most popular picture. It’s likely that many folks might not think of this is a sightseeing/landscape picture, but doesn’t it capture the zeitgeist of the place? The traditional picture that frames the most beautiful view or the fanciest buildings are sometimes less authentic than the casual capture of life just happening around you. This has that kind of authenticity that makes you feel like you understand not just what it looks like, but also its vibe.
Stina McGillivary shoots more than landscapes. There are delightful pictures of her and on occasion pics of her with friends. There is this consistent thread in her pictures of not taking herself too seriously. She is relaxed and at ease. It shows in her pics and her confident choice to shoot from unique vantage points and to focus in on tiny details like a mouse. Her pics are fun and she makes them useful as well by adding SLurls and a bit of info in the descriptions.
